Description
The purpose of this course is to introduce students to a wide range of social
scientific theories that guide research in telecommunications. Theories will
include: Cultivation; Construction of Social Reality via Media; Uses and Gratifications;
Excitation Transfer; Mood Management, Limited Capacity Model of Motivated, Mediated
Message Processing; and others.
Required Readings
Required readings will be excerpts of books or articles from academic journals. The required readings will be placed on electronic reserve--either through the library's E-Reserve system or in the Resources section of the class Oncourse CL page. I will let you know when they are available and how to access them. Your task will be to read them in time to respond via email and for the class discussion.
